The In-Between
Introduction: The Space Between
Have you ever felt stuck?
Maybe you left something behind—a job, a relationship, a hurt—and you know you can’t go back.
Maybe you have a dream or calling ahead of you—something you’re hoping for—but you’re not there yet.
You’re in between.
Not where you were.
Not where you’re going.
Just… in the middle.
That space in between can feel confusing, lonely, and overwhelming.
You might ask:
- God, what do I do now?
- Am I even going the right way?
- Will I ever get there?
You’re not alone in that feeling.
Jesus Understands the In-Between
Here’s something powerful:
Even Jesus went through an in-between season.
After He rose from the dead, He didn’t just go straight to heaven.
He stayed on earth for 40 more days.
Acts 1:3 says:
“After His suffering, He showed Himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that He was alive. He appeared to them over forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.”
He spent that time comforting, encouraging, and preparing His friends for what was next.
Jesus didn’t rush ahead. He stayed present—in that space between resurrection and ascension.
And if Jesus was willing to stay in the in-between for them…
He will stay in yours, too.
Big Idea:
The in-between is not where you’re abandoned—it’s where you’re equipped.
God is using this season to get you ready for what’s next.
Three Truths to Hold On To
1. God Knows Where You Are
You are not lost.
Even when you feel like you’re wandering, God sees you.
After the resurrection, Jesus met His disciples while they were hiding, afraid, and unsure of what to do next.
John 20:19 says:
“Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’”
He didn’t wait for them to have it all figured out.
He met them right where they were.
And He’ll meet you right where you are, too.
2. God is Preparing You, Not Punishing You
This in-between time can feel uncomfortable—but it’s not meant to break you. It’s meant to grow you.
Jesus used His 40 days to teach, to heal, to get His followers ready.
Think of a seed underground—it doesn’t look like anything’s happening, but roots are forming.
In your in-between, God is growing your roots.
3. The In-Between Won’t Last Forever
Jesus didn’t stay in that in-between space.
After 40 days, He ascended to heaven. His followers moved forward and changed the world.
You won’t be stuck forever either.
This season is not the end of your story.
It’s just one chapter.
And what’s coming next is worth getting ready for.
Closing Word: Don’t Run Back to the Grave
Jesus showed us we can rise up from what tried to bury us.
But sometimes, fear makes us want to run back to what we just left.
- Maybe you’re scared of what’s ahead.
- Maybe you don’t understand the process.
- Maybe it’s uncomfortable.
- Or maybe you just can’t see clearly yet.
But hear this:
If you’re in the middle—tired, doubting, or wondering what’s next—
God has not left you.
He is with you.
He is preparing you.
And He will bring you through.
Just don’t let this season become a prison. Let it become preparation.
